How does a person attain guidance?

What is required from a person to revive their heart, receive Allah’s blessings and the prayers of His angels, have tranquility descend upon their heart, increase in faith and guidance, emerge from darkness into light, and walk upon the Straight Path—becoming among the righteous, the doers of good, and the successful who are guided by their Lord?

First: True faith in the heart
This includes belief in the six pillars of faith:
Belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and divine decree—both its good and what appears difficult.

Among the clearest signs of sincere faith are:
Patience in obedience, patience in avoiding sin, patience with people’s harm, and patience during trials.

Second: Righteous deeds, which are of two types:

1. Deeds that benefit others
Foremost among them are giving zakah and spending in the cause of Allah.

2. Deeds that benefit the soul, including:

Establishing prayer and supplicating for guidance: Guide us to the Straight Path.

Fasting and pilgrimage for those who are able.

Reading and reflecting upon the Qur’an, connecting it with contemplation of the creation of the heavens and the earth—linking Qur’anic signs with cosmic signs to know the Creator through His creation.

Using reason and reflection to become among those of understanding whom Allah has guided.

Frequent remembrance of Allah, especially glorification, praise, and declaring His greatness, particularly in the mornings and evenings.

Sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, especially on Fridays.

Seeking forgiveness and sincere repentance, especially before dawn.

Constant supplication and reliance upon Allah in all matters: You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help.

Through this path,
the sincere believer attains the answer to the supplication “Guide us to the Straight Path”, and Allah increases them in faith, light, and guidance until they become among the righteous and successful—those truly guided by their Lord.
